A hat-trick at Walton Heath saw ISM virtually double our US Open representation overnight.

Gregory Bourdy, Matthew Baldwin and George Coetzee all came through at Walton Heath for the chance to go to the season’s second major in San Francisco.

It was a top effort from the trio and I know they will give a good account of themselves in America.

Not so Darren Clarke who was very disappointed not to be able to make the same trip.  He aggravated a groin problem first discovered at Houston the week before the Masters and will not play for the best part of a month.

It may well prove a blessing in disguise because Darren has had a hectic year as Open champion and the rest is sure to do him good.

Darren will make his comeback in his own backyard because he lives no more than two minutes from the Royal Portrush course where the Irish Open will be staged at the end of the month. And he knows every bit of that particular piece of links terrain so he might come back with a bang.

A big welcome back to Ross McGowan, who has come through the worst injury nightmare of his career.

It was last November when Ross was felled by a wrist injury, but is now ready to pick up with the very promising career he had before.

Our attention turns to Muirfield Village and Wales this week as the build up to the US Open continues.
