Joost in time

Joost Luiten gave his many followers and friends a Dutch treat at the weekend when he joined the two-time European Tour champions’ club.

Joost’s gradual return to top form came to a successful conclusion in Austria when he led throughout the weekend to triumph in the Lyoness Open at the Diamond Country Club.

Eighteen months after a debut win at the Iskandar Johor Open, Joost collected his second with a two-shot triumph over fast-finishing Thomas Bjorn, who prevented an ISM 1-2 by pipping Frenchman Romain Wattel.

Romain shot four consecutive sub-70 rounds and can take pride in third being his best finish of the season to date.

Gregory Bourdy and Shiv Kapur completed a quartet of top-ten finishers while Fredrik Andersson Hed and Simon Wakefield tied for 19th on seven under, with Simon Dyson and Matt Baldwin one behind in tied 25th.

Now it’s off to Merion for the US Open where, injuries permitting, we have six representatives.

Congratulations are due to one of them already – Louis Oosthuizen having become a father to a third daughter, Emma, last week.

Let’s hope we have another reason to crack open the champagne next Sunday.
