Solid Start But Room For Improvement
Posted: 24th January 2012
After a nice Christmas break I flew out to Dubai for some serious practice.
The weather was great and it was nice to get back on to the course. I played ‘friendly’ round with my coach Graham Walker against Joost Luiten and my caddie Chris Rice. The less said about the result the better.
We then flew from Dubai to South Africa for my first tournament of 2012, The Volvo Golf Champions.
The Links at Fancourt was in fantastic condition and the wind didn’t really get up on the first two day. After a 69 and a 72 I was -5 after two rounds which left me in a good position.
The weather really turned on the Saturday which made scoring more difficult and I carded a three over par 76. I pulled it back on the final day with a 72 to finish in tied 16th on -2.
It was a reasonably solid start to the season but I was completely happy with the way I played and there is plenty of room for improvement.
I headed from South Africa to the Abu Dhabi Championship and played a practice round on the Tuesday morning. The wind made for some tough conditions and I still felt I wasn’t quite firing on all cylinders. Hopefully it will all come together when the tournament starts.
After Abu Dhabi I’m playing in the Dubai Desert Classic and then the Avantha Masters in India. Hopefully I can get some good results on the board early to kick start my Race to Dubai challenge.
